Meet Bia Sol Sustainability Winner of the BMW Future Entrepreneur Programme.
#FutureEntrepreneurProgramme
‘It’s been amazing partnering with BMW as a small Irish business to be aligned with such an iconic brand with similar sustainability goals’
Bia Sol is the winner of the inaugural BMW Future Entrepreneur Programme, winning the award for Sustainability. As part of their prize Bia Sol’s founder, Niamh, won the use of a fully electric BMW iX1 for 3-months, and mentoring sessions with BMW Ireland’s MD Helen Westby and Peigin Crowley founder of Ground Skincare.
Biasol, founded by siblings Ruairi and Niamh Dooley from Tullamore, Co. Offaly, transforms brewers’ spent grain into high-fibre, plant-based food products, creating a circular solution that addresses food waste and improves nutrition.
We caught up with Co-Founder Niamh in Bia Sols Headquarters, in Tullamore Co. Offaly to learn more about their brand.
‘We came together because we wanted to create a nutritious product but also in a sustainable way’
Biasol began in 2020 as a ‘lockdown’ project, when siblings Ruairi and Niamh Dooley identified brewers’ spent grain as a nutritious, sustainable food ingredient. Biasol upcycles this by-product into healthy, high-fibre food products that reduce food waste and support better diets.
The sibling duo work together from different sides of the globe to bring Bia Sol to life, with Ruairi living in Australia and Niamh in Ireland. They started Bia Sol to combat food waste, improve nutrition, and bring our family closer together!
Innovating Sustainability
Bia Sol’s innovative circular economy business model repurposes food waste from breweries to create nutritious food products utilising spent grain, a byproduct of the industry that accounts for 85% of all brewing waste used in the craft brewing industry. Niamh Dooley describes this process as ‘So that’s the largest biproduct of the brewing industry and we turned this into clean label, high fibre snack products for everyone to enjoy’.
The award-winning business is Origin Green certified and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, promoting a healthier, more circular food system.
Bia Sol offers their customers a vast array of products from high fibre baking mixes to wholesome snacks, there’s something for everyone!
