The BMW M5 Saloon and M5 Touring MotoGP™ Safety Cars.
The honour of providing the official fleet of safety and medical cars for the MotoGP has proudly been with BMW M since 1999, making this its 27th consecutive year. In the current 2025 season, this longstanding partnership has been given a high-octane upgrade thanks to the BMW M5 Saloon and more recently the BMW M5 Touring.
To celebrate this new model, the BMW M5 Touring MotoGP™ Safety Car was on display at the start of the 2025 MotoGP™ season in Bangkok. The BMW M5 MotoGP™ Safety Car was already unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 and then hit the track for the first time in spectacular style at the San Marino and Rimini Riviera motorcycle Grand Prix in Misano Italy.
The BMW M5 Touring MotoGP™ Safety Car, which is based on the BMW M5 Saloon, is the most powerful safety car to ever to grace the racetrack.
The most powerful safety car ever
With outstanding M power and the latest technology for supreme handling, the BMW M5 Saloon and M5 Touring are the perfect choice when picking a Safety Car for the racetrack. Boasting the M hybrid drive, which has a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, the BMW M5 Touring MotoGP™ Safety Car can generate up to 727 hp and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. This power is dynamically distributed by the M xDrive to all four wheels.
“We have always aimed to ensure safety with the most innovative high-performance automobiles when the world’s best motorcycle racers take to the track. We are continuing this tradition with the BMW M5 MotoGP Safety Car.”

An inspired new look
At the world premiere, which was at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, the BMW M5 MotoGP™ Safety Car designs revealed a familiar look and feel, with inspiration clearly and intentionally coming from the much-loved BMW M Hybrid V8. It also features the unmistakable and special graffiti-design livery. The BMW M Hybrid V8 is the current BMW M Motorsport race car competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, such as Le Mans, and in the IMSA series in North America.
Racetrack modifications
To ensure that BMW was meeting with the strict MotoGP standards, modifications were made to the both BMW Safety Cars for its use on the racetrack. This included numerous M Performance Parts such as the carbon front attachments, an aramid rear diffuser, carbon side skirts, carbon-titanium tailpipe trims, and a carbon fuel filler cap. Other special features include the Safety Car roof bar, a front splitter, Recaro seats, 6-point racing harnesses, a fire extinguisher, and a fuel suction pump for overseas transport.
“The livery perfectly embodies our commitment to hybrid technology. This connection between the BMW M Hybrid V8 and the BMW M5 is a perfect example of our BMW M philosophy: Born on the racetrack, made for the streets.”
